Dry Skin Driving You CRAZY? Try This
It’s that time of year: Your skin looks more like a roadmap than, well, your skin.
That’s because the cold air outdoors and the dry air indoors literally sucks the moisture right out of your body, leaving in its place dry, scaly, cracked—and often painful—skin.
If you’ve been slathering on topical moisturizers for some temporary relief, that’s just what you’ll get.
But if you want a permanent fix, you have to address the problem from the inside out.
And believe it or not, a handful of specific foods can help you do just that.
The cosmetic industry has pumped our heads full of marketing nonsense that the only way to fix dry skin is with topical moisturizers.
But your skin isn’t deficient in Jergens.
The problem occurs when dry winter air sucks your skin dry faster than your skin’s internal layers can replace it.
The key, then, is to load up on natural skin hydrators that can moisturize your skin the way nature intended… from the inside out.
Here are six foods that can do the trick.
Fruit. These sweet treats are natural skin hydrators. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that vitamin C, which is loaded in fruits like oranges, pineapples, and papaya, can help prevent wrinkles and dry skin.
Almonds. These gritty nuts are loaded with vitamin E, which has been shown to protect skin from free-radical damage and early skin aging.
Sweet potatoes contain record amounts of beta-carotene and vitamin A. While vitamin A helps repair the damaged skin, beta-carotene works like natural sunblock in your skin, strengthening its protective barrier and moisturizing skin cells.
Avocados. This creamy green is the perfect source of the very fats your skin needs to stay flexible and hydrated.
Seafood. Fish like salmon and mackerel are excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which studies have shown can heal dry skin and prevent dehydration. The specific omega-3 called ALA has been shown to lock moisture into the skin. Seafood also contains zinc, which helps produce healthy new skin cells.
Dark chocolate. One study showed that adding cocoa powder to the diet for 12 weeks led to thicker, more hydrated skin. That’s likely because it contains skin-protecting antioxidants like selenium, zinc, and potassium.
To a brighter day,

When it comes to stopping breast cancer, mainstream medicine doesn’t have much useful to say. They’ll talk all about the benefits of early detection – but that only catches cancer AFTER you already have it. The government… the drug companies… the media… it feels like EVERYONE is sounding the alarm. Flu season has ARRIVED. You’re probably already familiar with the typical flu symptoms: the fever, chills, muscle aches, fatigue. It can make even the strongest man beg for his mama. For the vast majority of people, these will be the...

Every time I see people walking down the street with their cell phone pressed against their ear, it makes me cringe. Don’t people know these radiation-emitting devices can CAUSE CANCER? You know that what you eat impacts things like your heart, your brain, and your gut. Eating the right foods can reduce arthritis pain, boost your mood, and even improve your sex drive. It’s one of the main problems with Alzheimer’s disease: Once you know you have it, it’s too late to do anything about it. For years, the PSA test was the end-all, be-all of prostate testing. Doctors pushed the test on their patients, and the patients dutifully listened. More recently, studies have revealed that the PSA test isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. We learned that high PSA levels don’t necessarily indicate that a man has prostate cancer…...
I’m a big believer in using food as medicine. But a lot of the “superfoods” out there don’t taste so super at all. One day there will be a study telling you to eat a pound of kale a day… and the next day, some researcher wants to add steamed broccoli to every meal. Who’s...
If you want to live to 90… or 100… or beyond, you’ll hear lots of talk about “lifestyle factors.” Your doc will tell you to quit smoking, exercise, and give up the junk food. And that’s all pretty good advice. But what if the key to a long life isn’t HOW you live, but WHERE...
