Dry Skin Driving You CRAZY? Try This

It’s that time of year: Your skin looks more like a roadmap than, well, your skin.

Fruit. These sweet treats are natural skin hydrators. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that vitamin C, which is loaded in fruits like oranges, pineapples, and papaya, can help prevent wrinkles and dry skin.

Almonds. These gritty nuts are loaded with vitamin E, which has been shown to protect skin from free-radical damage and early skin aging.

Sweet potatoes contain record amounts of beta-carotene and vitamin A. While vitamin A helps repair the damaged skin, beta-carotene works like natural sunblock in your skin, strengthening its protective barrier and moisturizing skin cells.

Avocados. This creamy green is the perfect source of the very fats your skin needs to stay flexible and hydrated.

Seafood. Fish like salmon and mackerel are excellent sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which studies have shown can heal dry skin and prevent dehydration. The specific omega-3 called ALA has been shown to lock moisture into the skin. Seafood also contains zinc, which helps produce healthy new skin cells.

Dark chocolate. One study showed that adding cocoa powder to the diet for 12 weeks led to thicker, more hydrated skin. That’s likely because it contains skin-protecting antioxidants like selenium, zinc, and potassium.
