4 Signs Your Body Is Vitamin Deficient
There are plenty of things you can guess about. Like the weather tomorrow, the lottery, or who will win the game tonight.
But your health isn’t one of them.
That’s why I always recommend that my patients get regular blood tests to know where they stand on critical factors like good HDL, omega-3 levels, hormone status, and more.
These blood tests can give you critical information about your body’s vitamin and nutrient levels. And they can help you avoid illness by heading off any shortfalls.
Of course, many shrug off this advice or simply don’t get around to it.
So if you’re NOT having your blood tested regularly, the next best thing is to tune in to the most common warning signs for vitamin deficiencies.
Following are four RED FLAGS to look out for.
The first is dry skin.
Moisturizers and lotion might offer a quick fix, but they’re NOT the answer to this problem. Instead, dry skin could be a sign of vitamin D deficiency.
In fact, the reason why skin tends to be extra dry in the winter is NOT due to the cold or the wind, but to lack of sunlight. The sun’s vitamin D helps lock moisture into your skin.
If you’re experiencing frequent mouth ulcers or cracks on the side of your mouth, this could indicate that you need more iron or B vitamins.
Another common mouth issue—bleeding gums—could be a sign of vitamin C deficiency.
Vitamin C helps with wound healing and general immunity. It also helps battle the bad bacteria that cause gum disease (and, therefore, bleeding gums).
Taking in more vitamin C can help your body fight off these harmful bacteria, which can help resolve the bleeding.
Hair loss is common, but it’s NOT normal. (There’s a big difference!)
If you’re experiencing clumps of hair falling out, you could be deficient in micronutrients like iron, biotin, and zinc.
If you’re noticing any of these symptoms, it’s time to listen to your body and do something about it.
I’d recommend getting blood tests to confirm any deficiencies. It can save you money by showing you exactly which nutrients you need most.
I’m all for taking supplements—but ONLY when you need them. The best way to prevent deficiencies is to eat a well-balanced diet of organic, IN SEASON foods.
Your body is talking to you. Your job is to make sure you’re listening.
P.S. WHEN you eat your fruit and vegetables is just as important as WHAT you eat. I’m not talking about the time of day… I’m talking about the time of the year. CLICK HERE to learn more about seasonal eating and how it can keep you healthy.
