Researchers recently completed a comprehensive analysis of this ancient healing spice. They reviewed 20 randomized, controlled trials on turmeric and its active component, curcumin.

Curcumin didn’t just help people with type 2 diabetes lose weight, it transformed their entire body composition in ways that prescription drugs can’t.

We’re talking about improvements in:

  • Body weight
  • Waist circumference
  • Body fat percentage
  • Hip circumference

According to the study published in Nutrition & Diabetes, it even worked for folks with prediabetes, potentially reducing the risk of progressing to type 2 diabetes.

The doses used in the studies ranged from 80 to 2,100 mg daily, administered over periods of eight to 36 weeks. The longer someone supplemented—and the higher the dosage—the bigger the improvements.

The “sweet spot”? According to the research, you’ll need to take 1,500 mg or more daily for at least 22 weeks to see these kinds of results.

While this study didn’t evaluate why curcumin works, previous research gives us some compelling clues.  Previous studies found that it improves insulin sensitivity, reduces chronic inflammation, and enhances fat metabolism.

Remember, supplements like curcumin can be powerful allies, but they’re not a magic bullet.

No matter how potent curcumin is, you can’t just pop a supplement, sit in your easy chair all day eating potato chips, and expect miracles.

The biggest transformations happen when curcumin amplifies other healthy choices. We’re talking about eating real, whole foods instead of processed junk. Moving your body regularly. And getting good quality sleep.
