6 Ways to Lower Blood Sugar Naturally
Happy Halloween!
Since this is the most-sugar-filled holiday of the year, it seems appropriate that my subject today is about sugar.
Especially since you DON’T have to have type 2 diabetes—or even prediabetes—for high blood sugar levels to wreak havoc on your body.
This is especially true when it comes to after-meal blood sugar spikes. Because the fact is they can be as harmful as chronically high blood sugar levels.
That’s why, in addition to keeping your sugar intake low, it’s a good idea to consider one of these supplements clinically proven to lower blood sugar levels.
Cinnamon is one of the best-known supplements for naturally managing blood sugar levels. It’s a natural insulin stimulant that keeps blood sugar levels stable.
Simply adding more cinnamon to the diet has been shown to reduce fasting blood glucose by 25 mg/dL.
Another study showed that taking 1 gram of cinnamon extract daily for 12 weeks reduced fasting blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes.
Berberine is found naturally in plants and has natural blood-sugar-lowering properties. A daily dose of .9 to 1.5 grams could reduce post-meal blood sugar by 15 to 34 mg/dL and reduce HbA1c (a measurement of your blood sugar levels over time) by .7 percent.
(Just be aware that berberine could increase the risk of bleeding when taken with blood thinners.)
Research has found the herb fenugreek can reduce fasting blood glucose and postprandial blood glucose by 15 to 23 mg/dL.
Vitamin D is extremely effective at regulating blood sugar levels. Plus, this potent nutrient reduces insulin resistance, improves lipids, and lowers blood pressure.
In fact, studies show that people who maintain adequate vitamin D levels have a 43 percent lower risk of type 2 diabetes.
One unique plant called ivy gourd has insulin-mimicking properties, which makes it a valuable tool for lowering blood sugar levels.
Studies show taking 1 gram of ivy gourd leaves for 90 days can trigger a 16 percent reduction in fasting blood glucose levels and an 18 percent reduction in after-meal blood glucose levels.
Lastly, an herb that grows in India and Africa called gymnema has been traditionally used to manage blood sugar.
And studies confirm it works. Research shows that 500 mg of gymnema extract twice daily for 60 days can decrease fasting blood glucose by 43 to 55 mg/dL.
Of course, you don’t have to take ALL of these supplements. Any one could support your body’s ability to properly handle sugar.
Steer clear of that Halloween candy this year. And consider adding a blood-sugar-supporting supplement to your routine.
P.S. This EASY early morning trick can help you achieve better blood sugar WITHOUT dieting.
