Are You wasting Your Money on B Vitamins? Find Out
You know by now that when I recommend supplements, they’re just that… a supplement.
They’re meant to fill in any gaps in your diet—or you can think of them as an extra nutrient boost in the specific areas you need most.
This latest study highlights one of the reasons why.
It reveals that supplementing with something like B vitamins could be a waste of money without enough of this critical dietary element.
Your body is a complex machine with countless interconnected parts.
One thing ALWAYS affects another.
This latest study on fiber is a perfect example.
It showed that when mice were deprived of dietary fiber, their B vitamin levels significantly decreased.
That’s because when the gut bacteria were deprived of their ideal food (fiber), they consumed the B vitamins instead, leaving less available for the host.
This can ultimately contribute to a weakened immune system because B vitamins…
- regulate immune responses,
- produce white blood cells, T cells, and red blood cells,
- regulate your inflammatory response,
- fight against free radicals,
- and more.
If you’re deficient in B vitamins—or experiencing immune dysregulation—you might be tempted to load up on a B complex supplement.
But a study like this reveals that you’re wasting your money unless you get plenty of fiber.
Instead, concentrate on eating a whole foods diet with plenty of high-fiber foods (like beans, seeds, nuts, and oats), which allows your body to properly utilize the B vitamins you’re feeding it (with foods like salmon, beef, eggs, and milk).
Although this was just an animal study, it still paints a clear picture of the interconnectedness of systems within the body.
Don’t look for a quick fix. Look for the ROOT CAUSE.
You’ll be far healthier in the end.
