When you consider the greatest threats to your health, what comes to mind?

Viruses and bacteria? Smoking, stress, sugar, or processed foods? Chemicals, heavy metals, or EMFs?

All of these are correct. But one of the worst offenders is one most people never see coming:

Your own immune system.

With autoimmune conditions, your immune system mistakenly attacks its own cells. It’s like a GPS-guided missile that gets its coordinates wrong. And with rheumatoid arthritis, it’s your joints that are under attack.

What causes the initial malfunction is still a mystery—but critical new research has just given us the next best thing:

A major clue about how to prevent it in the first place

Researchers gathered data from 117,000 people, averaging 57 years old, who participated in a long-term study called the UK Biobank. They tracked them for about nine years.

They also conducted a review of previous studies looking into the connection between rheumatoid arthritis and diet.

After examining data on family history, education, income, lifestyle factors, health parameters, and more, both reviews led to the same conclusion:

People following a Mediterranean-style diet have a reduced risk of the disease.

In fact, those who had the highest Mediterranean diet scores had a 29 percent lower risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis during the follow-up.

The two foods with the strongest connection to reduced risk were olive oil and legumes.

Previous research has shown that a Mediterranean diet has positive effects on multiple autoimmune conditions, likely due to its powerful anti-inflammatory effects.

In fact, adhering to the diet for just 12 weeks reduced rheumatoid arthritis disease activity by 28 points!

The Mediterranean diet primarily consists of whole foods, including fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, olive oil, fish, and poultry. It also has you avoid processed food, added sugars, and refined grains.

I recommend tweaking the plan to include grass-fed meat, eggs, and butter for even greater health benefits.

When it comes to diet, the closer you stick to Nature, the better off you’ll be.
