Are We Drugging Dementia Patients to Death?
When you’re caring for someone with dementia, you know that every day is a struggle…
For them… and for you.
But you bend over backwards making sure they get the best possible care.
Unfortunately, mainstream medicine doesn’t seem to have the same commitment to dementia patients’ care that you do.
A disturbing report has emerged that people with dementia are routinely being given drugs that have long been known to make their conditions worse… cause falls… and even kill them.
This should have been stopped years ago… and it wasn’t.
So I’m going to show you everything you need to keep your loved one safe.
Researchers from UCLA recently looked at nine years’ worth of Medicare data for people with dementia.
What they found was horrifying…
About one out of every four dementia patients is being given brain-altering medications that can land them in the hospital or worse.
These are drugs linked to confusion, deteriorating symptoms, and even potentially fatal falls.
First, let me share the list, so you can check your loved one’s prescriptions:
- Benzodiazepines
- Nonbenzodiazepine hypnotics (often used for sleep)
- Antipsychotics
- Anticholinergic antidepressants
- Barbiturates
Let me be really clear on this…
Doctors have known for years that these medications are NOT recommended for dementia patients. They are handing them out anyway and violating the standard of care.
Now, take another look at that list of meds… and see if you notice anything they have in common.
A lot of these drugs have a sedative effect… which is exactly what’s happening here.
Dementia patients are being sedated… with drugs that they shouldn’t be taking… to make them easier to manage.
In fact, this happens in nursing homes all the time, and it’s heartbreaking.
If you are caring for a loved one with dementia, look at their prescriptions and see if they’re taking any of these inappropriate meds.
If they are, schedule an appointment with their doctor right away.
Or consider getting a new one.
