The One Test Every Diabetic Needs (You Probably Aren’t Getting It…)
The moment you’re diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, you practically turn into a pin cushion…
And I’m not just talking about the drugs you have to inject into yourself.
It’s the battery of tests that never seem to end…
They test your blood sugar… your cholesterol… your kidney function… and plenty more.
But there’s one test you’re probably not getting.
And it could hold the secret to finally getting your blood sugar in line.
When we talk about vitamin D, we tend to think of it as helping keep our bones strong or support our immune systems.
And it does both.
But it also plays a bigger role in blood sugar control than you might imagine.
New research out of the Middle East looked at 30 studies on vitamin D and ran the numbers.
Turns out that if you are deficient in vitamin D, you’re going to have a much harder time controlling your blood sugar. And fixing the deficiency could hold the key to blood sugar numbers that will make both you and your doc happy.
You see, vitamin D helps your body control blood sugar by improving how well your cells respond to insulin, the hormone that moves sugar out of your bloodstream. It also supports the pancreas (which makes insulin), helping it release the right amount to keep blood sugar levels stable.
If you’re diabetic, getting your vitamin D levels regularly checked is just smart medicine. But you’re probably going to have to ask for it – this testing isn’t standard in many doctors’ offices.
And, as you know, my preferred way to increase your vitamin D levels is through regular sun exposure. With spring finally here, that’s getting much easier to do.
But if your vitamin D levels come back very low, talk to your doctor about adding some supplements to the mix.
