END Your Type 2 Diabetes?!
You know that type 2 diabetes is preventable.
But did you know that it’s also reversible?
More and more scientific research shows you can do more than just control the disease.
And in this latest study, patients were able to END their diabetes.
Here’s how they did it.
When you get a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes, you’re told to keep close track of your blood sugar and then you’re put on drugs for the rest of your life.
Meanwhile, your body is gradually deteriorating from the inside out because of the harmful effect of high blood sugar.
Thanks for nothing, right?
No wonder diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death in the US and costs the country a staggering $327 billion in direct medical costs and reduced productivity.
But there’s more than just HOPE for diabetics… there’s a way to STOP the disease.
Researchers randomly assigned 158 diabetics to one of two groups. One group received conventional treatment, with no non-traditional treatments.
The other group participated in an intervention program that consisted of an aggressive diet and exercise regimen.
They followed a low-calorie diet for 12 weeks, followed by 12 weeks of transitioning to a healthy diet.
They also exercised for 150 minutes per week (about 30 minutes a day for five days), in addition to walking at least 10,000 steps per day.
One year later, the intervention group lost an average of 26 pounds.
But the shocking results showed that two-thirds of those in the intervention program were in total disease remission.
In other words, they were no longer considered diabetic.
Plus, 30 percent had completely normal blood sugar levels.
Many of the individuals experienced improved cardiometabolic outcomes as well.
The group receiving the conventional treatment didn’t fare as well, with multiple people experiencing severe adverse events and hospitalizations for everything from pneumonia and abdominal pain to reproductive issues.
(Not a good time to be in the control group!)
I was impressed with what the lead researcher had to say about the study. He said, “We’re hoping that studies such as these can bring about a big change in the clinical approach to type 2 diabetes across the world – so that we will combine early screening with lifestyle interventions essentially to get rid of this condition straightaway, instead of putting people on multiple medications for life.”
Imagine that… skipping the drugs and actually curing the disease!
That’s the kind of medicine I like to see.
