[Revealed!] 2 Nutrients BOOST Brain Function
Plus, How Heart Disease is Dangerous for Your Brain, Too
Coronary artery disease is a double whammy.
In addition to increasing your risk of a heart attack, this form of heart disease is also bad for your brain.
It increases your risk of cognitive decline by 45 percent.
But researchers have found a way to protect your brain if you have CAD.
It’s a simple fix that can not only prevent cognitive decline, but that can actually IMPROVE your brain function.
Coronary heart disease occurs when plaque builds up in your arteries and blocks proper blood flow.
This can cause problems for your heart AND your brain since your brain depends on adequate blood flow to function properly.
When you reduce blood flow, neurons start dying, and your cognitive function takes a nosedive.
Researchers were looking for a way to prevent cognitive decline in these at-risk individuals, but they found something much better.
For the study, 291 adults with CAD were given 3.36 grams of EPA and DHA combined, while the other half were not.
EPA and DHA are forms of omega-3 fatty acids that are especially high in fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, and tuna.
After a year and a half, they found that the group taking EPA and DHA experienced improvements in their cognitive function.
This was based on tests of verbal fluency, language and memory, visual motor coordination, and processing speed.
The largest brain benefits were seen when there were higher levels of BOTH types of omega-3s. EPA alone didn’t improve cognitive function, but seemed to add additional benefits when levels of DHA were also higher.
Numerous studies have already shown how beneficial these healthy fats are for your brain.
But this one was extra encouraging because it shows that they’re powerful enough to combat one of the biggest side effects of coronary heart disease.
