Do THIS Twice a Week to Fight Inflammation
Reduce insulin resistance, lower blood sugar, and fight inflammation
When it comes to inflammation, here’s what you need to remember:
Acute inflammation = GOOD
Chronic inflammation = BAD
In fact, out-of-control, chronic inflammation is at the root of virtually every major disease or condition you can think of… heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, and even Alzheimer’s.
Any steps you can take to avoid it, reduce it, or resolve it will be steps toward boosting your overall health and wellness, and reducing your risk of disease.
In a recent study, researchers identified a technique you can do just TWICE a week that can supercharge your body’s inflammation-fighting response.
Ready for it?
Don’t eat.
Sounds awful, I know, but stick with me.
This study looked at the benefits of intermittent fasting, which can be done in multiple ways.
I like to do a daily intermittent fast, where I eat for about 8 hours of the day, and then fast for 16 (give or take).
But this study looked at the benefits of a water-only fast two days a week.
The study included 67 people who had at least one feature of metabolic syndrome (a cluster of conditions that occur together) or type 2 diabetes.
Half followed this intermittent fasting schedule for 22 weeks, while the other half didn’t.
Researchers found that the intermittent fasters had higher levels of galectin-3, a protein tied to your inflammatory response.
This is an indication that intermittent fasting prompts your body to fight inflammation and lower the risk of chronic disease.
In fact, this important response is likely a key reason why previous studies have shown that intermittent fasting can help stave off heart disease, cognitive decline, and everything in between.
The intermittent fasting group also had lower rates of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome. The researchers said the results were comparable to SGLT-2 inhibitors, a class of drugs designed to lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes.
A drug-free way to lower blood sugar, reduce insulin resistance, and fight inflammation?
Those are pretty impressive benefits from simply NOT EATING two days per week.
If you’re concerned about your levels of inflammation—or your risk for metabolic syndrome—give it a try.
Trust me… it’s easier than you think.
And besides, the benefits are worth any temporary discomfort.
