Eating for heart health doesn’t have to be boring and bland.
And it doesn’t have to mean cutting out all of the foods you love, either!
It turns out that people who eat nuts on a regular basis have a dramatically reduced risk of heart disease.
Researchers analyzed the nut consumption of 210,000 people who had no history of heart disease, cancer, or stroke at the start of the study.
After following them for up to 32 years, here what they found…
Compared to those who didn’t eat nuts, the people who ate walnuts just once a week had a:
- 19 percent lower risk of heart disease, and a
- 21 percent lower risk of coronary heart disease.
Eating peanuts and other tree nuts was also beneficial. Eating tree nuts twice per week was tied to a:
- 15 percent lower risk of heart disease, and a
- 23 percent lower risk of coronary heart disease.
Eating peanuts and walnuts was also tied to a lower risk of having a stroke:
- People who ate peanuts twice a week had a 10 percent lower risk of stroke, and
- Those who ate walnuts once per week had a 17 percent lower risk of stroke.
Nuts make a great, heart-healthy snack. And as this study showed, a small amount can have a big impact.
All nuts are beneficial, but as this study revealed, walnuts will give you the biggest bang for your buck.
