The BEST Cancer-Fighting Diet (WOW!)
How to improve cancer outcomes and boost your immune system
When it comes to fighting cancer, every little bit helps.
That’s why this latest study showing a drug-free way to potentially boost cancer outcomes really caught my interest.
It highlights a dietary method that’s been shown to have significant health benefits, like fighting inflammation, reducing insulin resistance, boosting brain function, and even extending longevity.
Now it’s been shown to potentially improve cancer outcomes.
I’m talking about fasting.
There are all sorts of ways to get the benefits of fasting… from all-out fasting (not eating anything for a period of time), to intermittent fasting, to calorie restriction.
Fasting can be particularly beneficial for cancer patients because it activates many of your body’s protective cellular mechanisms.
Cycles of prolonged fasting have also been shown to have anti-tumor effects, boost responses to anti-cancer therapy, and protect against some of the damaging effects of chemotherapy.
However, prolonged fasting and severe calorie restriction can be difficult (or even dangerous) for cancer patients.
So for this study, researchers used what they called a fast-mimicking diet, which is low in calories and sugar, but prevents potential nutrient deficiencies.
They gave 101 cancer patients a five-day fasting-mimicking diet, which consisted of consuming 600 calories on day one, and then 300 calories on days 2-5.
For the following two to three weeks, they followed calorie restriction in order to regain any weight lost.
This was repeated every three to four weeks for an average of four cycles.
All of the patients reduced serum glucose by 18.6 percent, reduced insulin by 50.7 percent, and reduced IGF-1 by 30.3 percent.
Here’s why this is so important…
- Insulin has been shown to stimulate cancer growth,
- High serum glucose promotes cancer progression, and
- IGF-1 may promote the growth of cancerous tumors.
They also experienced dramatic improvements in their immune system, with:
- A significant decline in white blood cells that are associated with immune suppression, and
- Increases in immune cells that kill cancer cells.
This study was noteworthy because it showed that the fasting-mimicking diet produced these beneficial anti-cancer metabolic and immune system changes regardless of the type of cancer, the stage of the cancer, or the current cancer treatment.
If you or a loved one has cancer, please do not embark on calorie restriction on your own. Show this study to your doctor, and work with him or her to embark on the plan that’s the best for your individual needs.
