High blood pressure is a leading risk factor for heart disease.

For this study, researchers divided 342 adults with prehypertension into two groups.

Half completed four 60-minute sessions of moderate exercise per week.

The other half performed four 60-minute tai chi routines at home per week.

Tai chi is a form of martial arts that involves slow, gentle movements. You may have even seen folks practicing it in the park before.

After one year, both groups had approximately the same…

  • waist circumference,
  • weight,
  • and body mass index.

However, the tai chi group experienced a FAR more significant drop in blood pressure levels.

While the aerobic exercise group experienced an average drop of 4.61 in systolic blood pressure points, the tai chi group had a 7.01 drop.

By the end of the study period, this put 15 percent of the aerobic exercise group back into the ideal blood pressure range—and 21.8 percent of the tai chi group.

Any movement you choose to do regularly will lower your blood pressure.
