DISCOVERED: The Best Test for Alzheimer’s Disease!
When it comes to Alzheimer’s, prevention is best… but early detection is the next best thing.
You see, even though there’s no cure for Alzheimer’s, the earlier you begin treatment, the slower your disease will progress.
Early treatment could mean more years of being yourself and maintaining your independence.
Researchers have identified a new, better way of predicting Alzheimer’s risk.
It won’t prevent the disease, but it could give you the heads up you need to benefit from early treatment.
Traditional memory tests test your memory over 30 minutes.
But researchers wanted to see if testing memory over a longer period would be a better predictor of who would go on to develop cognitive decline over the following year.
For the study, 46 healthy adults averaging 70 years old were given three memory tests where delayed recall was tested after 30 minutes, and again after four weeks.
The people also took another common test for detecting cognitive impairment and had an MRI brain scan.
Ultimately, the researchers found that the four-week memory recall test was a better predictor of cognitive decline than the gold-standard 30-minute test.
And when the four-week recall test was combined with the MRI brain scan showing the size of the brain responsible for memory, it was even more accurate.
Studies like these highlight the fact that there is always room for improvement—even in the medical field.
(Especially in the medical field.)
If your doctor isn’t up to date on this research, you can show him the study and ask for the four-week test.
It’s fast, it’s cheap, and it’s more accurate than the gold-standard test.
