BIG News About Brain Health (Must Read!)
The shocking change over the past 10 years
There’s so much BAD news these days that I often just tune out the media.
But not all news is bad news.
In fact, today I have GREAT news.
It has to do with a shocking change in brain health that’s occurred over the past decade.
Ready for it?
A new study has shown that, over the past 10 years, there has been a sharp decline in cognitive impairment among older Americans.
Hip hip, horray!
The study included 5.4 million older adults who filled out a survey every year for 10 years answering questions about whether or not they had serious difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions.
In 2008, the percentage of older Americans who reported having serious cognitive problems came in at 12.2 percent.
By 2017, that number had dropped to 10 percent.
That means that 1.13 million adults were saved from experiencing cognitive impairment over that 10-year period.
Maybe you’re one of them!
The researchers attributed the results to better education, improvements in nutrition, and declines in smoking and air pollution.
I also like to think that my constant reminders about ways to protect your brain have played a small role in turning the tide on brain health.
Folks, your mental health does NOT have to be a roll of the dice.
You have tremendous control over how well you age, and how sharp your brain stays as the years go by.
I’ll continue to tell you about studies with new information—and remind you about tried and true methods—in these daily e-letters.
