There’s COVID… and then there’s Long COVID.

A typical COVID-19 infection lasts for a few days or weeks.

Long COVID occurs when some of those symptoms linger. They can last for months or even years.

Symptoms can include headaches, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, digestion issues, dizziness, and more.

There are currently no treatments for this condition.

However, in a recent study, researchers are exploring a safe, natural, inexpensive way to treat it.

Multiple studies have identified a connection between gut issues and Long COVID.

For example, one study found that lack of gut diversity increases the risk of Long COVID.

And another study found that the gastrointestinal symptoms of Long COVID were linked to gut health in 89 percent of cases.

With this in mind, researchers are exploring whether improving gut health by taking a fermentable fiber called inulin could help resolve Long COVID symptoms.

Taking this type of fiber could have two significant benefits:

  1. Increasing gut diversity
  2. Supporting immune health

This study is ongoing, so we won’t know the results for a while yet.
