Common Habit Causing Weight Gain (SHOCKING!)
Losing weight is hard.
Take one look around you, and it’s clear that the plethora of diets, gimmicks, and weight loss fads just aren’t working.
But there’s one bad habit you could be doing that could be sabotaging your weight loss efforts…
And it’s not anything you’re consciously aware of.
In fact… it’s something you could be doing in your sleep.
According to a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine, there’s ONE bad habit that could make you gain weight while you’re sleeping.
Researchers used questionnaires from over 43,000 women between 35-74 years old who had no history of cancer or heart disease, and who were not night shift workers or daytime sleepers.
This is important because the researchers were comparing women who slept in a darkened room to those exposed to some level of artificial light at night.
Ultimately, the scientists determined that women who were exposed to light while they were sleeping – from something like a TV or lamp – were 17% more likely to gain 11 pounds or more over the 5-year follow-up period.
We already know that poor sleep is associated with weight gain. But the researchers specifically noted that poor sleep was NOT a factor in the link between artificial light at night and weight gain.
I’m not at all surprised by this study.
Your body was designed to sleep during the night in the dark. Darkness allows your body to release melatonin, a hormone that impacts functions throughout your entire body.
Light suppresses melatonin production.
Weight gain is just the latest in a long list of problems associated with artificial light at night – and ultimately, with a disrupted circadian rhythm. Others include an increased risk of cancer, depression, sleep disorders, diabetes, erectile dysfunction, and more.
That great news is that this is an easy fix!
Make sure you’re sleeping in a completely blacked out room at night. No TV, no lights.
This truly is one of the easiest things you can do for your overall health – including watching your waistline.
