Have you ever seen someone and thought, “Wow, he looks great for his age!”

Or perhaps the opposite… “Time hasn’t been kind to him.”

Those are indicators of your biological age, as opposed to chronological. In other words, it’s a sign of how well your cells are aging.

And while you obviously can’t do a thing about your chronological age, your daily choices can either speed up—or slow down—your biological one.

Case in point:

Here’s one way to prevent around three years of biological aging…

Telomeres are caps made of DNA located at the end of your chromosomes.

In the same way that the little plastic piece on the end of your shoelaces prevents the laces from fraying, telomeres protect your chromosomes.

Every time a cell divides, those caps get a little shorter. It’s a natural part of aging.

However, outside factors like stress, inflammation, chronic disease, smoking, obesity, pollution, and more can all speed up this process.

At some point, shortened telomeres lead to damaged DNA and programmed cell death, ultimately accelerating aging and disease.

However, new research reveals vitamin D can slow down the shortening of your telomeres.

Let’s take a closer look.

For the study, volunteers took 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 per day for five years. In addition, the researchers did blood tests to assess their telomere length at the beginning of the study, after two years, and after four years.

Compared to the placebo group, participants who took vitamin D showed significantly less telomere shortening over four years.

Based on how telomere length correlates with aging, this was equivalent to preventing nearly three years of aging.

Research has already tied higher levels of vitamin D to a reduced risk of mortality and just about any disease you can name.

Its ability to protect your telomeres could be a BIG reason why.

As usual, I suggest you step outside to boost your D levels naturally.

P.S. Nature’s “Holy Grail” redefines aging—found in these seven foods.
