Diet Hack Extends Lifespan by 35%
I’ve told you before that when you eat is just as important as what you eat.
Many studies have shown this to be true when it comes to factors like weight and blood sugar control.
But according to a recent study, the timing of your meals can ultimately have an impact on the most critical factor of all:
How long you live.
In this animal study, researchers compared animals that ate whenever they wanted and as much as they wanted, to animals fed calorie-restricted diets at specific times of day.
Those who ate during the day lived 20 percent longer (compared to those that ate whenever they wanted).
And those who ate only during active times of day, lived 35 percent longer.
Of course, as you’ve probably already guessed, it all comes back to your circadian rhythm.
Your body’s internal clock is programmed to digest food better during the day. When you eat earlier, your body can digest the food and then use it immediately for energy.
When you eat later, you’re going against your body’s clock, and that causes all sorts of problems.
It can increase indigestion and acid reflux, cause sleep problems, and cause weight gain.
Eating more during the day and less at night also allows your body to focus on rest and cellular repair during the night.
This causes your body to accumulate less wear and tear, and ultimately reduces the risk of aging and disease.
Think of it like regularly taking out the trash or changing the oil in your car.
Yes, you need to pay attention to what you’re putting in your mouth as well.
But for added health benefits—and possibly a longer life—eating earlier in the day is an important piece of the puzzle.
