Do THIS to Make Your Brain Bigger (Amazing!)
Alzheimer’s disease is predicted to become a full-blown epidemic by 2050.
But you don’t have to be diagnosed with dementia to experience the everyday impact of an aging brain…
Like forgetting why you walked into a room or having trouble finding the exact word you want to use.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
There are simple ways to keep your brain sharp and healthy as the years go by—tricks that can even make your brain bigger.
Here’s one of the best.
If you made a New Year’s resolution to exercise, it was probably to help you lose weight or to get in better shape.
But if you’ve been one of the thousands flooding gyms across the US since January 1, you’ve been experiencing an unexpected benefit:
In addition to making your muscles bigger, exercise is making your brain bigger, too.
A study just published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings followed more than 2,000 adults. The researchers measured their peak oxygen uptake during exercise and conducted MRIs to look inside their brains.
They found a connection between increased oxygen—which occurs when you do anything that gets your heart rate up (like brisk walking, running, biking, or even sex)—and increases in the gray matter in your brain and total brain volume.
Gray matter includes areas of your brain that are involved in everything from memory and emotions to speech and decision making.
Interestingly, the increased gray matter was in areas of the brain that are typically the ones associated with cognitive decline and even Alzheimer’s disease.
This is a good indication that exercise is an important way to keep your wits about you as you get older.
And just think… you’ll even look better, too.
