There’s good news and bad news when it comes to breast cancer.

The good news is that breast cancer rates are decreasing.

The bad news is that over 260,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer are still diagnosed every year, and nearly 42,000 women will die, many of them seniors.

Fortunately, there is a shockingly easy way to decrease your risk of breast cancer.

And it has nothing to do with diet or exercise.

Some research has shown that eating certain foods – like fruits and vegetables with carotenoids (like carrots and squash) can lower your risk of breast cancer.

But scientists have recently found that WHAT you eat might not be as important as WHEN you eat when it comes to reducing your risk of breast cancer.

That’s because restricting your window of eating can reduce the risk of obesity and metabolic syndrome—two risk factors for postmenopausal breast cancer.

Researchers conducted three different experiments on mice injected with breast cancer cells, comparing the difference between having 24-hour access to food versus eight-hour access.

I won’t bore you with the details of their tests because I mainly want to highlight the results.

The researchers found that in obese mice, time-restricted eating delayed the development of tumors and reduced tumor growth.

They also found that tumors grew faster in mice implanted with an insulin pump (to simulate insulin resistance), while mice that had their insulin levels reduced experienced reduced tumor growth.

What does all of this mean?

The takeaway is that limiting the time of day in which you eat (to eight hours or so) helps reduce tumor growth in part by lowering insulin levels.

This is actually a form of intermittent fasting known as 16:8 (fast for 16 hours, eat for 8) that I practice myself several days a week.

Making this one simple change in your life can have dramatic effects on your weight, blood pressure, and even on diabetes. (In one study, diabetics were able to stop taking insulin after one month of intermittent fasting!)

And now we see that it can dramatically reduce tumor growth as well.

If you want to give this simple anti-cancer strategy a try for yourself, I recommend starting with the 12-hour window without food, once a week, and then gradually extend the time to 16 hours.
