Eat Your Way to a Healthier Heart?!
You can eat your way to a heart attack…
But you can also eat your way to heart health, too.
Fish like salmon, sardines, and cod are loaded with omega-3s, which drastically reduce your risk of dying from coronary heart disease or from a heart attack.
But how do omega-3s work their magic?
A recent study uncovered yet another reason why omega-3s are so protective for your heart.
Past studies have shown that omega-3s have heart-healthy benefits like
- Reducing blood pressure,
- Reducing chronic inflammation,
- Lower triglyceride levels,
- Increasing good cholesterol, and
- Reducing platelet aggregation.
Now, a recent study has shown us yet another reason why omega-3s are so good for you.
Researchers used data from nearly 14,000 people over a 10-year period that included a treadmill exercise test and the patients’ Omega-3 index.
Part of the exercise test measures heart rate recovery, which shows how fast your heart rate drops back down to normal after exercise.
The faster the drop, the better your heart health.
What the researchers found was that the higher the omega-3 index, the faster the heart-rate recovery.
This is critical, since a slow heart rate recovery has been tied to an increased risk of dying from sudden cardiac arrest.
Eating fish is an easy way to improve your overall health—and your heart health, too.
I eat fish multiple times a week.
It’s easy to cook, it’s delicious, and it’s hard to beat its benefits for your health—especially your heart.
