“Foreign Weed” BLOCKS Blood Sugar Spikes?
I can tell people until I’m blue in the face to cut back on carbs and sugar… but I may as well be telling them to walk on water.
In other words… it would take a miracle.
But I’ve got great news today. Because researchers have found a way to have your cake and eat it to.
It’s a rare weed grown in the Middle East that helps control your blood sugar… even after consuming a high-carb meal.
And the results? Better blood sugar control WITHOUT having to cut out the foods you love.
Its name doesn’t sound very appealing, but if you’re a carb-lover, a high-protein strain of duckweed – called Mankai – could be your new best friend.
In a study published in the journal of the American Diabetes Association, researchers compared a protein shake made with Mankai to one made with yogurt.
After two weeks, those drinking the Mankai had significant improvements in numerous blood sugar measurements, including:
Lower glucose peak levels
Lower morning fasting glucose levels
Later glucose peak time
Faster glucose evacuation
As an added benefit, those drinking the Mankai shake felt FULLER.
This is just the latest in a line of studies showing the incredible health benefits of Mankai—and I predict it is on the verge of becoming the next big Superfood.
Mankai stands out from most plants because of its protein content.
Protein makes up 45% of its dry matter (which is unheard of in a plant), and it contains all nine essential and six conditional amino acids (making it comparable to the protein profile of eggs).
It also contains an abundance of vitamin B12, something practically unheard of in most plants.
And when you consider that it is also a rich source of polyphenols, fiber, iron, zinc, vitamin A, and the range of B complex, it’s not hard to see that Mankai might just be nature’s perfect plant.
And while the name might be new to us here in the West, it has been consumed in Southeast Asia for hundreds of years, where it has earned the nickname, the “vegetable meatball.”
If you’re skeptical about how a plant called duckweed would taste, don’t worry. It’s practically tasteless and odorless, making it the perfect base for a protein powder. And you can get it at your local natural health store.
