Get Eagle Eyes With These Vision Vitamins!
Have you ever looked through a window that was dirty and smudged?
Or squinted to see your reflection in a fogged-up mirror?
Those things are minor annoyances… but they’re also easily fixable. Clean the window, or use a towel to wipe the moisture off the mirror.
Fixing the cloudy, hazy view you have as a result of cataracts isn’t as easy.
But there’s a way to make sure you never get cataracts in the first place.
And all you have to do is load up on these vision vitamins.
Cataracts can make it difficult to see at night, can make you sensitive to light, can give you double vision, and can make colors appear dull.
If you’re over 40, you have a 1 in 6 chance of developing cataracts, and by the time you hit 80, that skyrockets to a 50/50 chance.
Those aren’t good odds.
But there’s something you can do about it.
In a study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers conducted a meta-analysis that included eight randomized, controlled clinical trials and in 12 cohort studies that evaluated the connection between certain nutrients and the development of age-related cataracts.
The nutrients tied to a reduced risk of age-related cataracts included vitamins A, C, and E, beta carotene, and lutein and zeaxanthin.
The cohort studies showed that…
- Each 10 mg/day increase in lutein and zeaxanthin decreased the risk of cataracts by 26 percent
- Each 500 mg/day increase in vitamin C decreased cataract risk by 18 percent
- Each 5 mg/day increase in beta carotene decreased the risk by 8 percent
- Each 5 mg/day increase in vitamin A decreased the risk by 6 percent
Preventing cataracts is the best-case scenario.
But even delaying their development could dramatically reduce the number of people who need surgery.
