Mainstream Advice UPS Colon Cancer Risk 50%?!
Not long ago I told you about the alarming increase in colon cancer rates — especially in people under 50 years old.
One possible reason was because of a lack of sunlight.
And now, researchers have identified another possible reason.
And once again, it’s caused by following mainstream medicine’s advice.
Take a look.
Doctors have been overprescribing antibiotics for years.
Yes, antibiotics are a godsend for infections of all types.
But over the years, doctors started handing out prescriptions for antibiotics to people who don’t really need them.
One alarming side effect has been an increase in antibiotic resistance.
(That’s a topic for another day.)
Today, I want to talk about a newly identified side effect of these over-prescriptions:
An increase in colorectal cancer in people under 50.
For this study, researchers compared nearly 8,000 people with colon cancer to 30,000 people without.
They found a clear link between antibiotic use and an increase in colorectal cancer—but there was a BIG difference between early onset (younger than 50 years old) and late onset (older than 50).
Antibiotic use was associated with a 9 percent increased risk of later onset colorectal cancer…
And a shocking 50 percent increased risk in early onset colorectal cancer.
The most significant associated was with cancers found in the first part of the large intestine.
But not every type of antibiotic was associated with this increased risk.
The most serious offenders were
- Quinolones
- Sulfonamides/trimethoprim
Now, I’m not saying NOT to use antibiotics.
By all means, if you need them, take them!
And if you do need them, make sure you take the full course.
Ending a course too soon contributes to antibiotic resistance just as much as over prescribing does.
Second, be sure to get a routine colonoscopy.
With rates increasing in younger and younger people, your best bet for a good outcome is to catch it as early as possible.
Recommendations for routine screening start at 45 years old.
