Money-free way to REV up your brain!
Only a certain kind of music can help
When you think of ways to boost your brain function, you might think of standards like diet and exercise.
If that’s what comes to mind, great!
Modifying your diet and getting in lots of practical movement every day is a great way to keep your brain firing on all cylinders.
But they’re not the ONLY ways.
In fact, researchers have recently identified a remarkable method that can increase memory performance in people with Alzheimer’s disease or mild cognitive impairment.
And it all has to do with listening to your favorite music.
For this groundbreaking study published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, researchers had 14 patients listen to either music that had meaning to them (such as the song played at their wedding, or music they listened to in high school), or music that was newer to them.
They listened for just ONE HOUR per day for three weeks.
The researchers found that listening to meaningful music significantly activated the deep-encoded network of the prefrontal cortex of the brain.
It induced beneficial brain plasticity, which is the brain’s ability to change and adapt to experiences… physically reorganizing its structure.
Familiar music also improved cognition.
In other words, music has the power to impact the structure and function of your brain.
Like I said, remarkable!
This was a small, preliminary study, which means more research is needed. But it still gives incredible hope for people suffering from MCI or Alzheimer’s for a drug-free way to experience meaningful improvements in their cognitive function.
