Revealed: THIS Vitamin Deficiency Increases Arthritis Pain
How it leads to higher pain levels, greater disability, more anxiety
If you have osteoarthritis, you’re no stranger to pain.
You want the pain to go away, but most days you’ll settle for managing it.
But did you know that the intensity of your pain can be impacted by more than the severity of your disease?
In fact, if you have this ONE deficiency, you could be experiencing higher pain levels, greater disability, and even more anxiety.
Fortunately, there’s an easy fix.
There’s no shortage of benefits of vitamin D… or of the harms that can come from not having enough of it.
A deficiency in vitamin D has been shown to increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, cognitive impairment, and cancer.
It’s also been connected to depression, osteoporosis, and type 2 diabetes.
More recently, it has become clear that if you have osteoarthritis, a deficiency in vitamin D can increase the intensity of your pain.
A recent study including 48 patients with early knee osteoarthritis, and 48 matched controls found:
- People with OA had much lower levels of vitamin D.
- The OA patients were more likely to be outright deficient in vitamin D, compared to those without OA.
And here’s where it gets really interesting…
Those with lower vitamin D levels had higher levels of pain intensity, disability, and anxiety… and did worse on tests of walking speed, sitting-to-standing, and social participation.
In other words, there was a clear relationship between vitamin D levels and pain intensity.
Fighting the pain of osteoarthritis can feel like a losing battle.
You can help stay ahead of the pain by making sure your vitamin D levels are up to snuff.
