Shave 5 Years Off of Your Brain? (WOW!)
“You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.”
“All washed up.”
“Over the hill.”
I’m tired of society programming you to think that you should start expecting less out of life once you reach a certain age.
Last I checked, chronological age is NOT a marker of vitality—physically OR mentally.
Truth is, it’s never too late to take positive steps for your health. And a recent study published by the journal of the American Academy of Neurology highlighted a simple way older people can improve their thinking and memory.
The best part?
You can get started right away.
We tend to think of exercise as being beneficial for your waistline and your heart.
But it’s invaluable for brain health, too.
For this particular study, researchers studied 206 adults averaging 66 years old who participated in an aerobic exercise class three days a week for up to 40 minutes. They also worked out on their own once a week.
After six months, tests of executive function improved by 5.7 percent, and tests of verbal fluency improved by 2.4 percent.
That might not sound like a huge improvement, but to put it in perspective, it brings the scores up to those typically seen in someone 5 years younger.
That’s like taking 5 years off your brain’s age!
These brain functions are responsible for important things like mental flexibility and how quickly you retrieve information.
Declines in verbal fluency show up in practical ways, like when you can’t remember a street name that you’ve known for years, or that movie you’ve seen dozens of times, or the name of that “food flipper” (the spatula).
I’m guessing you’ve experienced slips like that from time to time.
This study showed, in a very practical way, that regular exercise can help improve that part of the brain that helps reduce those mental slips.
Ultrasounds also revealed that the participants experienced an increase in blood flow to the brain, particularly in areas of the brain that are important for verbal skills, memory, and mental sharpness.
At an age when you’d normally see DECREASES in these brain functions, these tests showed that exercise alone can actually IMPROVE your mental capacity.
Looks like you really CAN teach an old dog new tricks after all.
P.S. As important as it is to boost your brain, it’s equally important to focus on things that might be WRECKING it. Click here and find out how your blood sugar might be destroying your brain.

Talking about the importance of vitamin D is one thing. Getting ENOUGH of it is another. The colder weather and shorter days can create a significant drop in D levels during the winter months. Of course, the sun is the best source of vitamin D. But there are other ways to get this vital vitamin....
The mainstream has been cautioning us about the dangers of eating red meat for years. It’ll cause heart disease, they say. It can increase your risk of cancer, they insist. It’ll send your cholesterol through the roof, they warn. To that, I say, blah blah blah. There was never a shred of credible research that...
Alzheimer’s rates continue to soar. But don’t expect drug companies to swoop in and save the day anytime soon. Because no matter how much money Big Pharma dumps into developing drugs for Alzheimer’s, they all end up as big, fat failures. But it gets worse… so MUCH worse. Incredibly, some of Big Pharma’s most popular...
When it comes to reducing your risk of cancer, every little (or BIG) bit helps. Like exercise, which can lower your risk of certain cancers by 40-50 percent. Or maintaining healthy vitamin D levels, which can lower your risk up to 67 percent. When you string together enough of these cancer-risk reducers, you’ll have a...
Mainstream medicine teaches you to reach for a pill when you get sick, are in pain, or feel tired. But I prefer a unique, drug-free treatment instead. A powerful solution that does everything from reducing pain and inflammation to increasing hormone levels and immune function. Best of all? This simple therapy is quick and 100...
One of the biggest pitfalls of mainstream medicine is that it is primarily symptom-based. They have a separate drug to treat every symptom you can imagine. But all too often, uncovering and treating the underlying CAUSE of those symptoms never happens. And when the drugs cause side effects, they pile on even MORE meds to...
I’m a BIG fan of vitamin D. And so is your body. In fact, it’s hard to overstate how critical this superstar nutrient is for your health. The sunshine vitamin is a key player in bone and tooth strength. It supports a healthy immune system so your body can fight off illnesses. It can even...
They say with age comes wisdom. But you and I both know the truth. With each passing year comes a few extra POUNDS. Gaining weight as you age almost seems inevitable. After all, you watch what you eat like a hawk… count every calorie… exercise all the time… and drink enough water to float a...
