Simple Food Hack Slashes Blood Sugar by 50%
If you’re living with diabetes, you know that managing your blood sugar isn’t as simple as popping a pill and hoping for the best.
Type 2 diabetes is much more complex than that.
Food, exercise, hormones, stress, sleep… all of these factors and more can impact your blood sugar levels. It’s like a puzzle, but the pieces keep changing shape.
Your doctor’s solution might be to prescribe another medication. But today, I want to give you a piece of the puzzle that could naturally help slash your blood sugar levels by 50 percent or more.
Results like these are comparable to pharmaceutical drugs, yet THIS solution costs just pennies a day.
It’s time to put an end to the constant struggle with expensive medications and harmful drug side effects.
Researchers have discovered a potent diabetes weapon hiding in the kitchen that can lower blood sugar, support healthy cholesterol, and improve overall metabolic health.
A study presented at The Endocrine Society found that taking onion extract along with the diabetes drug metformin reduced fasting blood sugar by up to 50 percent in diabetic rats.
These results match or even exceed many pharmaceutical interventions—and come with a side effect of lower total cholesterol.
What’s so great about onions?
They’ve actually been used for medical purposes for thousands of years. In fact, they were so revered by the Egyptians and Mesopotamians they buried them with pharaohs.
Today, we have a better sense of what makes onions so useful.
The secret is in compounds like quercetin and sulfur, which enhance insulin sensitivity, and in fructooligosaccharides, which are prebiotic fibers that improve gut health and metabolic function.
This particular study was done on animals, but a number of human studies have also shown that consuming onions or onion extracts had beneficial effects on blood sugar levels.
The dose of onion extract used in the study—400 mg/kg/day—is the roughly the equivalent of eating 1-2 medium onions per day (although it’s difficult to make an exact comparison because of variables like a person’s weight and the size of the onion).
I personally follow a modified paleo diet, which is focused on natural fish, meats, and produce, so onions are a natural fit.
Another crucial element of blood sugar control is properly setting your circadian rhythm, your body’s natural clock. Get sun exposure first thing in the morning, and avoid artificial light (such as from TVs, computers, tablets, or LED lighting) at night.
Research shows circadian disruptions make it harder to control your blood sugar and increase the odds of diabetes.
With diabetes affecting millions and medication costs soaring, it’s good to see research that isn’t completely dependent on drugs – and that proves simple food and lifestyle changes can deliver impressive results for just a fraction of the cost.
P.S. Onions aren’t the only kitchen secret to help dial down blood sugar—this tasty treat helps too.
