Slash Your Death Risk 65%!?
If the fountain of youth existed, we’d all be drinking from it.
And if there was a pill that could help you live longer, we’d all be taking it.
Well, I’ve got the next best thing.
It’s a common supplement that many have been using for decades to aid with their joints.
But now, it turns out, it can help naturally slash your risk of dying from heart disease… by a staggering 65 percent.
What you hear glucosamine and chondroitin, you probably think joint health.
This popular duo has been the darling of the supplement industry for years because of its benefits for your joints. (Although a recent study found a duo that works even better. You can read about them here.)
But it turns out that taking glucosamine and chondroitin may have even bigger benefits for your health.
Researchers looked at data on over 16,000 adults over 10 years who were part of NHANES, an ongoing health and nutrition status assessment.
When that information was merged with information from 2015 mortality figures, they found that the people who were taking glucosamine and chondroitin had a…
- 39 percent reduction in all-cause mortality (dying from anything at all)
- 65 percent reduced risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.
Now, it could be that people taking supplements like these tend to be healthier in general.
However, the researchers did control for other variables, and previous studies have shown a connection between glucosamine supplements and reduced risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.
So, while this was an epidemiological study and not a clinical trial, the overall evidence is compelling.
But there’s one catch to take note of:
The reduced risk of mortality was found in people who had been taking glucosamine and chondroitin for a year or more.
So, if you’re looking to get the health benefits of these supplements, be sure to add them to your regimen, and keep with it.
