Slash Your Risk of Heart Problems by 52%
You probably already know that exercise is good for you.
But how much is enough to boost your heart health?
And even better question: how much is enough to help you live longer?
A recent study asked that question about seniors, and the answer might surprise you.
Researchers tracked 2,800 men from 65 or older for 20 years.
The results showed that those who exercised for as little as 20 minutes per day had a lower risk of heart problems and heart attacks—and a lower risk of premature death.
This was specifically the case for men who got 20-40 minutes of moderately intense activity (like going for a brisk walk) or vigorous activity (like biking, running, or swimming).
In fact, getting at least 20 minutes of exercise per day was tied to a 52 percent reduced risk of cardiovascular problems.
The strongest benefit was seen in men from 70 to 75 years old.
There are a few key takeaways from this study.
One, a little goes a long way when it comes to the benefits of exercise.
Two, exercise can involve simple activities like walking or gardening.
Three, you’re never too old to get the health benefits of exercise.
No more excuses.
Get moving, and your heart—and your body—will thank you.
