Slash Your Risk of Type 2 Diabetes (Here’s how!)
The first study of its kind
If you want to lower your risk of type 2 diabetes, there are a few key ways to do it…
Lose weight…
Cut out sugar and refined carbs…
Quit smoking…
Don’t sit too much…
You know the drill.
But there’s another important method that belongs on this list… because a recent study found that doing this ONE THING could lower your risk by up to 39 percent.
I’m talking about regular physical activity… or exercise.
Researchers followed 8,000 men for up to eight years. The men answered a questionnaire about their physical activity, underwent a glucose tolerance test, and had their metabolites analyzed.
Metabolites are compounds that are formed as a result of the body’s metabolism.
Ultimately, physical activity was associated with 198 metabolites. In particular, it changed the levels of numerous lipids in ways that have been associated with reduced risk of type 2 diabetes.
Men with more physical activity also had better insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion, and lower fasting glucose and insulin levels.
Not surprisingly, the men who were the most physically active—defined as exercising for 30 minutes, at least three times per week—had a 39 percent lower risk of developing diabetes.
Even the men who exercised no more than twice a week had a 30 percent lower risk of diabetes.
Not only did this study show that exercising can lower your risk of type 2 diabetes… it gave important clues as to how.
I also noticed that it didn’t take much activity—just twice a week or so—to make a significant impact.
