Stop Taking Insulin?! Here’s How.
If you have type 2 diabetes, your life is filled with “don’ts.”
Don’t eat cake.
Don’t eat pasta.
Don’t put sugar in your coffee.
Focusing what you can’t have can be downright depressing.
That’s why today, I’m going to share with you the “dos” of type 2 diabetes.
In fact, DOING this one thing could help you come off your diabetes meds altogether.
Researchers from the West Virginia University School of Public Health wanted to find the best diet for diabetics – or for those trying to prevent it.
They combed through studies published over the last five years or so on the impact of plant-based diets on diabetes.
No matter what the specifics of the diet included, one thing became crystal clear: The more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and legumes in your diet, the LOWER your risk of developing diabetes.
Even better? When diabetics ate more plant-based diets had better blood sugar levels, lower body weight, and reduced dependence on insulin.
In fact, one of the studies showed that in people who started eating an almost exclusively vegetarian diet, 39% could come off their diabetes meds, or stop giving themselves insulin injections!
That’s extremely timely news, considering the looming insulin shortage!
Here’s the thing. I’m NOT anti-meat.
I love meat – as long as it’s from grass-fed cows. I eat chicken on a regular basis. And I LOVE my salmon.
You don’t have to be a vegetarian to enjoy the benefits of eating more fruits and vegetables.
My key takeaway from this study is that the more you fill your plate – and your belly – with the good stuff, the less likely you’ll be to overindulge in the bad.
It really is as simple as that.
