Stop This Senior “Stealth” Disease in Two Steps
Getting older can feel a bit like dodging traffic…
There are so many health conditions you’re trying to avoid.
Heart disease… diabetes… cancer.
But, believe it or not, there’s an ignored health condition that sends your risk of all of these diseases through the roof.
And there’s a 42% chance you already have it.
That’s the bad news – the good news is that scientists have discovered two steps that can help you beat back this ticking time bomb.
And if you’ve been reading my eletter for a while, you’re already doing both.
Doctors don’t usually talk much about fatty liver disease – or what is known as metabolic associated steatotic liver disease.
But research back in 2018 found that 42% of American adults have some form of it.
And that’s a wrecking ball for your health.
Fatty liver disease ups your risk of liver failure, heart problems, stroke, kidney disease, cancer, and plenty more.
But promising new research is showing that you can get fatty liver back under control – no drugs required.
In a study published in Scientific Reports, researchers took a group of mice with fatty liver and treated them with vitamin D and intermittent fasting (limiting their food intake to a specific time window).
Then, they looked at elevated liver enzymes that come with fatty liver.
Well, vitamin D reduced one key liver enzyme (ALT) by 42% and another (AST) by 38%.
Intermittent fasting slashed ALT by 47% and AST by 45%.
This was meaningful reversal of key markers of fatty liver, without introducing any drugs or difficult lifestyle changes.
Now, this was an animal study – but there’s plenty of other research supporting both vitamin D and intermittent fasting for liver health.
If you’ve been reading my eletter for a while, you know that I prefer you get your vitamin D from regular sun exposure. I know that’s hard to do in some parts of the country this time of year, so get tested and supplement as necessary.
As for intermittent fasting, I confine my eating to an 8-hour window each day, and research shows this in excellent way to improve metabolic health.
Give these two simple strategies a try, and you’ll be going a long way toward protecting yourself from disease.
