Is Stress DESTROYING Your Health?
COVID-19 has had all sorts of unintended consequences.
Especially on mental health.
The fear of contracting the virus, suffering financial hardships, the loneliness of social distancing…
It all causes a massive amount of stress that can take a toll on your mental AND physical health.
And this stress can be so great… that it could start destroying your health.
In fact, a recent review highlighted a shocking connection between your mental health and one of the most important muscles in your body.
In a review of 128 studies, the American Heart Association (AHA) found that people experiencing chronic stress, anxiety, depression, and anger had an increase in heart rate irregularities, blood pressure readings, inflammatory markers, and reduced blood flow to their hearts.
Those suffering from a mental health condition were also much more likely to have cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and weight-related issues.
But the opposite was also true.
People who were more optimistic, happy, and living with purpose, satisfaction and gratitude had LOWER blood pressure, better glucose (sugar) control, less inflammation, AND lower cholesterol!
Not surprisingly, they were less likely to suffer a stroke or heart disease, and they also had a lower risk of death.
Fortunately, if you’re suffering mentally, there are ways to boost your mind, your body, and your overall wellness.
The same review found that simply engaging in things like psychotherapy, stress reduction therapy, and meditation all led to better cardiovascular health and overall wellness.
Bottom line is, studies like this show just how closely connected your mind and body really are.
Being mentally healthy is just as important for your overall health as eating well and staying active.
