Now, a study has revealed a way to SUPERCHARGE the benefits of exercise for mind and body.
In a study published in Scientific Reports, 148 military personnel underwent a 12-week exercise program that involved 45-minute workouts five days per week.
Half of the people also drank a special, nutrient-enhanced protein drink before and after the workout, while the other group drank a placebo drink.
The participants took tests of cognitive abilities and physical fitness before and after the 12-week program.
The exercise-only (non nutrient-enhanced drink) group experienced improvements in 5 out of 6 physical fitness measures, and in 4 of 8 cognitive functioning measures.
But the group exercising AND taking the nutrient-enhanced drink saw the most comprehensive, most dramatic improvements.
This included ALL six of the physical fitness measures.
They also improved in 6 of 8 cognitive measures, including short-term memory, executive function reaction time, and working memory.
