Why it could be the key to healthy blood sugar levels 

The hemoglobin A1C test is the gold standard of diabetes diagnoses. 

It’s a test that measures your average blood glucose levels over the previous three months. 

Your results tell you if you’re normal, prediabetic, or diabetic. 

For many people, this test serves as an important wake up call to get your blood sugar under control. 

Two key ways to do that are through diet and exercise. 

But fortunately, there’s another (and easier) way to get those numbers moving in the right direction. 

And it’s all thanks to a powerful, and unsuspecting vitamin…  

Supplement with vitamin D! 

Yes, you can now add “significantly reduces HbA1c levels” to vitamin D’s lengthy list of health benefits. 

For this study of 130 type 2 diabetics, half received metformin plus vitamin D. The other half only took metformin. 

(Patients who were deficient in vitamin D took higher amounts than those who weren’t deficient.) 

At the three and six month marks, the metformin and D group had significantly higher blood levels of vitamin D (which wasn’t surprising). 

However, they ALSO had significantly lower levels of HbA1c. 

Remember, this is the key marker that indicates how well you’re controlling your blood sugar levels. 

In addition, studies have shown that supplementing with vitamin D can increase insulin sensitivity in people at risk for diabetes — or in those who have been recently diagnosed. 

In other words, it can make sure insulin does its job of moving glucose out of your bloodstream and into your cells. 

These studies fall right in line with other studies showing that having low levels of vitamin D increases your risk of developing diabetes. 

I hope by now you’ve taken my advice and had your blood levels checked so you know exactly where you stand.  

If they’re low, spend more time in the sun, eat more vitamin-D-rich foods, and if necessary, take a vitamin D supplement.
