The Guaranteed Way to NEVER Have a Stroke
Strokes are one of the leading causes of death and disability in the U.S.
And the earlier you get treated, the better your chance of recovery.
That’s why I always tell my patients to act “FAST”:
- Face: is one side drooping?
- Arms: does one drift downward?
- Speech: is it slurred?
- Time: Call 911 ASAP if you have any of these signs.
But wouldn’t it be better not to have a stroke in the first place?
Fortunately, a recent study reveals the best way to do just that.
A key way to avoid having a stroke happens to be one of the top ways to avoid heart disease, neuropathy, retinopathy, and ultimately, death:
Don’t get diabetes.
A recent study published in the journal of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes followed over 33,000 people who developed type 2 diabetes between 49 and 59 years old.
They found that these individuals were 30% more likely to have a stroke in their 60s.
The connection between diabetes and strokes makes perfect sense.
Insulin’s job is to shuttle sugar into your cells to use for energy. When insulin stops working, all that sugar stays in your bloodstream, where it wreaks havoc on your blood vessels.
The blood vessels become damaged and narrow, leading to atherosclerosis.
Eventually, if a blood vessel becomes completely blocked, it cuts off blood flow to your brain… and that’s when a stroke occurs.
But this domino of disease doesn’t have to happen… because you don’t ever have to get type 2 diabetes.
One key way I maintain healthy blood sugar levels is through intermittent fasting. Eating your meals during a six-hour window has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity and improve blood pressure.
I do this a few times a week. The best part about it is that you don’t have to count a single calorie or restrict the types of food you eat.
