The Longevity Trick EVERY Senior Should Be Doing
You already know I’m a fan of exercise. That’s no surprise.
The reason why is simple. There are very few habits you can adopt that have such a massively positive impact on your health.
It’s why I often highlight the latest studies showing how something as easy as a walk or working in your garden can drastically impact your health and longevity.
Now new research has just revealed a unique way exercise can reduce your risk of early death.
The recent study focused on seniors and identified a SPECIFIC exercise you can do to significantly extend your life
Aerobic exercises like walking, hiking, biking, or swimming provide nearly endless health benefits.
But if you really want to kick the exercise benefits into high gear, try adding a little weight to your routine—weightlifting, that is.
The new study tracked nearly 100,000 overweight seniors with an average age of 71.
After 10 years of follow-up, the researchers found that weightlifting and aerobic exercise were linked to a lower risk of premature death from ALL causes except cancer.
- Those seniors who lifted weights (but did no aerobic exercise) had a 9-22 percent lower risk of early death.
- Those who did aerobic exercise (but didn’t lift weights) had a 24-34 percent lower risk of early death.
- But those who did BOTH—weightlifting and aerobic exercise—saw the greatest benefits by far, with a 41-47 percent lower risk of premature death.
Weightlifting can seem intimidating at first, no matter your age.
If you don’t want to join your local gym, you don’t have to. You can create a weightlifting exercise routine at home with simple hand weights.
Plenty of at-home programs specifically designed for seniors can get you safely started on a weight training program that’s just right for you. I suggest you start by checking out free videos on YouTube.
For seniors, lifting weights isn’t about showing off at the beach. It’s about fending off frailty, maintaining independence, boosting bone health, reducing fracture risk, and LIVING LONGER.
You don’t have to win competitions or lift massive barbells to see BIG benefits. Simply just get started.
You’ll be pleasantly surprised by how good being STRONG can make you feel.
P.S. Already exercising? That’s FANTASTIC! Keep up the good work. But you may be wondering if MORE exercise is BETTER. Researchers recently asked that question, and you might be surprised by the answer.
