The Single Solution for Depression and Insomnia?!
The key element for a healthy mind and body
This week, I’ve already discussed two important health topics: depression and sleep.
I told you about a common item in the produce aisle that can slash your risk of depression.
And I also talked about the scary connection between poor sleep and cognitive decline.
Today, I want to talk about a single solution that can boost both your mood and your sleep.
Sunlight!
When I talk about the connection between light and sleep, I’m often telling you about the dangers of too much blue light at night.
But getting plenty of sunlight during the day is just as critical for establishing a healthy circadian rhythm.
And a healthy circadian rhythm is crucial for your mood and your sleep.
After studying 400,000 people, researchers found that lack of daytime light exposure was a risk factor for depressive symptoms, poor mood, and insomnia.
More specifically, more time spent outdoors was connected to less use of antidepressant medication, better sleep, and fewer symptoms of insomnia.
This makes sense since light has a direct effect on the mood centers in your brain.
I’m tired of people talking about the dangers of the sun. The smear campaign on the sun has been one of the worst health catastrophes of our time.
The truth is that the sun is one of the most important elements of a healthy mind and body.
You should be spending time in the sun every morning during the golden hour, during midday, and as much as possible in between.
Each time of day exposes you to different UV rays that have various health-promoting properties.
We were never meant to be holed up in buildings, hidden away from the sun, and bathed in artificial light.
The human body was designed to work hand-in-hand with the outside world.
And the more time you can spend in it the better—for your body and your mind.
