Interestingly, the researchers were specifically looking for molecules in fruits and vegetables that resemble the ones found in licensed pharmaceutical drugs. 

The foods topping the list included sweet oranges, which are rich in the flavonoid dydimin (which is also found in coriander and dill) – and tea, which is rich in catechins, terpenoids, and tannins. 

The anti-cancer effects come from their ability to fight inflammation, reduce DNA damage, and induce apoptosis (causing cancer cells to commit suicide). 

But you don’t have to get bogged down in the list of 100+ cancer-fighting compounds.. 

ALL fruits and vegetables contain health-boosting molecules! And including a variety in your diet on a daily basis is the best way to take advantage of their benefits. 

If you feel like you keep buying the same ones over and over again (apples, oranges, and bananas, for example), try mixing it up by getting fruit or vegetable for every color of the rainbow. 

Since many of the beneficial compounds are found in the molecules that are responsible for the food’s color, that’s a simple way to make sure you’re getting all the variety you need to get all the benefits they provide.
