THINK Your Way to Better Blood Sugar?! (It’s Possible)
Currently, diabetes is managed through diet, exercise, and drugs.
But there’s a new piece to the diabetes puzzle. A better piece.
It’s a new concept that could not only revolutionize diabetes management… but could also change the way we approach disease in general.
In fact, this is the most interesting study I’ve come across in a while.
A study by Harvard researchers indicates the power of your mind to impact your health.
I’m not talking about feeling happy or having more energy.
I’m talking about controlling your blood sugar.
Thirty type 2 diabetics were divided into two groups. One was given a drink labeled with 0 grams of sugar, and the other was given a drink labeled with 124 grams of sugar.
In reality, both drinks were identical and contained 62 grams of sugar.
Researchers measured blood sugar levels before and after drinking the drink, and they found that the levels changed based on how much sugar the people THOUGHT they were drinking.
- The group who thought were drinking 0 sugar had low blood sugar levels.
- The group who thought they were drinking the high-sugar drink with 124 grams of sugar had high blood sugar levels.
This study indicates that there’s more to blood sugar control than the objective intake of sugary foods.
Your subjective perception of what you’re consuming appears to play a role as well.
Past studies have shown that people suffering from depression have difficulty managing their blood sugar levels—more proof the psychological factors play a role in concrete, physical measures of health.
The results of this study were inconclusive, but I thought they were very intriguing.
I’m not saying that you can eat a donut and pretend it’s broccoli to maintain your blood sugar levels.
But your mind is a powerful thing.
And we haven’t come close to tapping its ability to help take control of our health.
