The connection between COVID-19 and vitamin D was the same regardless of race, sex, or age.

Other studies have shown that people with lower vitamin D levels are more likely to be admitted to the hospital with COVID-19—and are also more likely to die.

There are multiple reasons for this strong protection. For starters, a deficiency in vitamin D weakens your immune system and makes you more susceptible to upper respiratory infections.

In addition, vitamin D can help calm the cytokine storm that is responsible for more serious cases of COVID-19 and even death.

I can’t overstress the importance of having adequate vitamin D levels, especially as we’re heading into winter… when people become notoriously deficient because the cold weather keeps them indoors.

This isn’t something you should guess about. Have your vitamin D levels tested. If they’re below 60 ng/mL, take active steps to boost your levels.
