The Truth About Supplements and COVID-19 (Women ONLY)
If you’re looking for a way to reduce your risk of COVID-19, you’re in good company.
Thousands of clinical trials are underway, but those results take time.
In the meantime, plenty of observational studies have found connections between supplement use and a lower risk of COVID.
Most recently, a multi-country study including more than one million people identified 4 supplements that could be especially protective for women.
For this study, researchers looked at more than one million people who were using an app that tracks COVID-19 symptoms and COVID-19 test results.
As part of the app, people also recorded their supplement use.
The researchers found that women who used certain supplements had a lower risk of developing COVID-19.
Specifically, they found that…
- Probiotics = 14 percent lower risk
- Multivitamins = 13 percent lower risk
- Omega-3 fatty acids = 12 percent lower risk
- Vitamin D = 9 percent lower risk
Apparently, the women experienced more protection than men, but there could be plenty of reasons for this.
Women tend to have stronger immune systems, and they also tend to be more conscientious about things like wearing masks and washing hands.
It could also be that people who take vitamins tend to be more health-conscience in general.
A study like this is simply based on observations, so set it’s not set in stone. But it does add to mounting evidence that certain vitamins help protect against COVID-19.
