Vitamin Duo Fights Hardening of Arteries
Most folks are surprised to learn that their bone and heart health are connected.
But if you have weak bones, you’re far more likely to have hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis).
The reverse is also true: If you have atherosclerosis, you’re more likely to develop osteoporosis or brittle bones.
These health issues are linked by one common denominator: calcium.
You see, it’s NOT enough for your body to have just an adequate supply of calcium…
It also requires two critical vitamins to ensure calcium is absorbed INTO your bones and stays OUT of your arteries.
In a recent study, researchers confirmed that taking vitamins K2 and D for two years slowed the progression of coronary plaque development in people at risk of developing coronary artery calcification.
In other words, people were able to prevent calcium from being deposited in their arteries simply by taking these two nutrients.
Calcium deposits contribute to hardening of the arteries, a key cause of heart attacks and death.
In fact, in people taking vitamins K2 and D, there was a lower number of acute myocardial infarctions, coronary revascularization, and death from any cause.
This is great news, but what does it have to do with BONE health?
Everything!
You see, previous studies have revealed that vitamins K2 and D are a powerful tag-team when it comes to calcium.
- Vitamin D enhances calcium absorption
- Vitamin K2 binds calcium to your bones
That means BOTH vitamins are essential for making sure calcium enters your bone (where it makes them strong) and stays out of your arteries (which helps prevent heart disease).
Many prior studies have shown that vitamin K2 is beneficial for heart health. But this is the FIRST clinical study to demonstrate that it directly affects calcium deposits in the arteries.
Dairy, fermented foods, and animal products contain vitamin K2. And spending more time in the sun can raise your D levels.
Supplements are available for both nutrients for folks who are at higher risk. Check with your doctor about what dosage is best for you.
