The 12-Week Blood Sugar FIX
I remember it like it was yesterday.
My youngest son absolutely REFUSED to eat his broccoli when he was little. He tried every trick in the book… hiding it in his napkin, feeding it to our dog—you know the drill.
But my wife and I always made sure we won that battle, and I’m glad we did… because more and more research has proven that eating this little green veggie is one of the BEST things you can do for your health.
And now, we have another benefit to add to broccoli’s resume: It helps fight type 2 diabetes.
In fact, a powerful component of broccoli could dramatically improve your blood sugar numbers in just 12 weeks.
One particular compound found in broccoli, called sulforaphane, could be especially potent in the fight against diabetes.
That’s because of how it impacts your liver’s production of glucose.
Most people think of the pancreas when it comes to sugar regulation, but the liver plays a role, too.
Because diabetics suffer from insulin resistance, the liver mistakenly thinks it needs to produce more sugar than is really necessary, contributing to the process that leads to dangerously high blood sugar.
There are many genes involved in the liver’s overproduction of glucose, and one group of researchers set out to find a compound that could hit the “off switch” on those genes.
After combing through nearly 4,000 compounds, sulforaphane emerged as the clear winner.
The next step was to test this compound in cell lines, animals, and ultimately, in people. At all of those stages, sulforaphane performed like a champ.
First, sulforaphane was shown to decrease the production of glucose in the liver cells of mice. Then, researchers found that it prevented glucose intolerance in mice, and improved it in mice who were already glucose intolerant.
But the real story here is its dramatic impact on diabetics.
When researchers gave type 2 diabetics this powerful broccoli extract, there were significant decreases in HbA1c after just 12 weeks.
And in those whose diabetes was not well managed, the broccoli extract significantly reduced fasting blood glucose.
What could those kinds of improvements mean for you and your quality of life?
If you’re having trouble regulating your blood sugar, this could be just the answer you’ve been looking for.
This broccoli compound, called sulforaphane, is available at just about any online or retail vitamin shop. You can get it for pennies a day.
I don’t think the broccoli battle will ever end with kids (or grandkids), but this latest study gives us one more reason to stay the course.
