Dr. G’s 7 Top CURES for Winter Skin
Winter can do a number on your skin.
It’s not just the cold, windy conditions outdoors that can leave your skin feeling raw and chapped.
Indoors, your furnace—and even that roaring fire—can dry out both the air and your skin, too.
And that hot shower or cozy bath? They can strip your skin of its natural oils.
But instead of slathering on chemical-laden lotions and moisturizers, I have a better solution.
Seven of them, actually.
They’re my top seven cures for dry skin—and all of them work from the inside out.
Vitamin D has numerous functions in your skin, including maintaining its barrier function, contributing to skin cell growth, and maintaining your skin’s immune system.
One study shows that people with low levels of vitamin D had lower skin moisture and that as they increased their vitamin D levels, their skin moisture increased as well.
Not surprisingly, then, multiple studies find that vitamin D supplementation improves dry skin and improves skin hydration.
It shouldn’t be surprising that supplementing with collagen is fantastic for your skin since 75 percent of your skin’s dry weight is made up of it.
One study shows that supplementing with collagen decreases wrinkle depth and increases skin hydration.
Another reports that consuming 2.5-5 grams a day led to improvements in skin elasticity and skin hydration.
Vitamin C is vital for your skin because it’s necessary for the production of collagen. Your skin also has a large amount of direct vitamin C.
Studies show that supplementing with vitamin C improves skin hydration and skin barrier function, and reduces water loss.
Fish oil—rich in omega-3s—is one of my favorite nutrients because of its seemingly endless benefits for your body.
And that includes plenty of properties that benefit skin health as well.
In a study of rats, fish oil supplements increased skin hydration by 30 percent, reduced water loss, and helped to relieve itching caused by dry skin.
Daily fish oil supplements can also improve the dry, cracked skin associated with psoriasis.
Three additional skin moisturizers include hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and aloe vera—all of which have been shown to promote healthy, hydrated skin.

Like it or not, you are what you eat. What you choose to put in your mouth every day will play a key role in what how you look, how you feel, and how healthy (or sick) you are. That’s because food has the power to heal… and to kill. But which foods fall into...
There’s no cure for Alzheimer’s or dementia. Not yet, anyway. But there are ways to slow down the rate of decline—giving you more years of independence and quality of life. A recent study has identified a specialized nutrient drink that can significantly reduce the rate of cognitive decline. Given the lack of drug options for...
I’ve been a doctor for 37 years now. Yet even after all these years in the business, I’m still amazed at how often mainstream medicine gets it wrong. I could give you pages of examples. But for today, I’m highlighting a drink that’s been on the “do not drink list” for too long… especially considering...
The biggest crisis in modern medicine isn’t finding a cure for cancer or curbing the heart disease epidemic. It’s the looming threat of antibiotic-resistant infections. Bacteria are figuring out how to outlive antibiotics… and creating a scary future where even the most minor infection could turn deadly. But there’s good news…. Canadian researchers believe that...
You’ve heard the saying, “Hurts so good.” That’s how I feel about chili peppers. I love the “burn” you get when you bite into a hot pepper and it sets your tongue on fire. I don’t eat chili peppers every day, but some people around the world do. And it turns out this spicy fruit...
I like to stay fit and active. I also like to make the most of my time. So when I saw a study that suggested a way to get even more benefits from exercising, it caught my attention. This study showed that you don’t have to work out harder—or longer—to obtain additional benefits. You just...
Two-for-one deals are great when you’re dealing with sales… but they’re not so great when you’re dealing with diseases. Psoriatic arthritis is like a two-for-one disease. People afflicted have both psoriasis—a condition in which itchy red patches appear on the skin—and arthritis, which is characterized by typical joint pain, swelling, and stiffness. It’s a chronic...
The death toll from COVID-19 is at 1.2 million people worldwide… and counting. Government shutdowns, travel restrictions, and mandated mask-wearing might have slowed it down a bit, but it hasn’t eliminated the threat. But those lockdowns have had an unintended consequence… and thousands are dying as a result—even if they never get COVID-19. Here’s what...
The scary thing about type 2 diabetes is that once you have it, you’ll always have it. A diagnosis sets the stage for a lifetime of using drugs to help keep you blood sugar levels under control. … at least that’s what mainstream medicine would have you believe. And it’s a lie. The TRUTH is...
There are more than 3 million men in American living with prostate cancer. You don’t have to be one of them. There are steps you can take to either reduce your risk of developing prostate cancer… or dramatically increase it. And it all has to do with what’s on your dinner plate. The association between...
