[Warning] Get These Cleaners Out of Your House
Dear Reader,
It’s one of the great ironies of our modern society.
Many of the things we think are good for us are literally destroying our health.
Like switching from butter to margarine. Or drinking diet soda.
And some of the worst culprits are in your house RIGHT NOW.
I’m talking about items like dish detergent, laundry soap, and tile cleaner, and even personal hygiene products like soap, shampoo, and conditioner.
That’s right, the latest research has revealed that some of these “beneficial” products could be RUINING our health in ways we never imagined.
According to a recent study published in the journal Birth Defects Research, two chemicals that are found in some of the most common household products could cause severe birth defects.
If you have any grandbabies on the way, this is a warning you need to hear.
These compounds are part of a larger class of chemicals called “quaternary ammonium compounds,” or just simply, “quats.”
Researchers decided to test two quats in particular — alkyldimethylbenzyl ammonium chlorid (ADBAC) and didecyldimethyl ammonium chloride (DDAC) – because the pair is often found together in common household items.
And what they found will make you want to throw those household cleaners in the trash RIGHT NOW.
To test their effects, the researchers exposed male and female mice to the two chemicals in the form of a commercial disinfectant (this would be something similar to Lysol or Scrubbing Bubbles).
They put the chemical both in their food and in the air (ambiently), since that’s how most of us would be exposed to these chemicals.
What they found is horrifying.
The animals exposed to the ambient chemicals were much more likely to have babies with neural tube defects.
Those are defects that affect the brain and spinal cord – two of the most common being spina bifida and anencephaly.
The more exposure, the higher likelihood of birth defects.
And perhaps the scariest part of all? These effects lasted for multiple GENERATIONS after the initial exposure.
These are just TWO of the thousands of chemicals, studied just in their relation to birth defects.
The average home contains over 60 toxic chemicals.
Chemical toxins are in everything from your clothes and food, to the very air you breathe, and they have been linked to asthma, cancer, neurotoxicity (think Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s), hormone disruption, and more.
Unfortunately, you’d have to sell everything you own and move to some place like Tibet to completely eliminate your exposure to toxic chemicals.
But there are a few steps you can take to reduce your exposure. Eat organic. Filter you water. Don’t put a bunch of chemicals in your home, on your body, or in your mouth, and limit the use of plastics.
If you’re wondering about the toxicity of the products in your home, I recommend visiting the website of the Environmental Working Group.
Their website, www.ewg.org, has a list of all common household products and gives them an A-F rating.
Find out how your products rate… and if need be, considering making the switch to a healthier, more natural option.
To a brighter day,
