Sure, things like exercise can actually help (and if you can make yourself do it, I highly recommend it), but who wants to go for a walk when every step is riddled with pain?

These are 5 of the best herbs for joint pain. They’re safe, natural, and inexpensive.
Arthritis is an inflammatory condition that affects the joints, causing inflammation, pain, and stiffness.
But before you load up on drugs like NSAIDs to combat all that inflammation, I recommend trying these safer, more natural alternative instead.
Turmeric. I’m starting with this one because it’s one of the best. Turmeric (and its main component, curcumin) is one of nature’s most potent anti-inflammatories – benefits that go a long way for people with arthritis.
Just how good is it? Well, one study actually found that this golden spice works better than Big Pharma’s treatments for rheumatoid arthritis.
This is not surprising since animal studies show that it can reduce the chronic inflammation caused by rheumatoid arthritis.
Borage seed oil. You may have never heard of borage seed oil, but it contains an extremely beneficial omega-6 fatty acid called GLA – as well as linolenic acid, the precursor to GLA.
GLA is helpful in rheumatoid arthritis because your body breaks it down into a molecule that helps regulate immune responses in the body (and rheumatoid arthritis occurs when the immune system attacks the joints).
A review of multiple studies found that oils containing GLA can help relieve pain and improve function in people with rheumatoid arthritis.
Cat’s claw. This might sound like some kind of voodoo herb, but it’s really just a vine that grows in South America that happens to be great at improving immune function and reducing inflammation. It’s also been found to reduce the activity of an enzyme that’s associated with arthritis.
One study showed that when people with RA took cat’s claw for 24 weeks, they experienced a 53% reduction in joint pain.
Eucalyptus. This plant is best known for its antibacterial and antiviral activities, but it also serves as a powerful antioxidant that can reduce pain and inflammation.
One study showed that eucalyptus leaf extracts could significantly reduce levels of two key inflammatory compounds: interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor–alpha.
Aloe vera. Its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties have made this plant popular for healing wounds and easing the pain of sunburn. Of course, this makes it great for treating arthritis pain as well.
In fact, one study showed that aloe vera’s anti-inflammatory effects are just as powerful as those of NSAIDs!
